Lasagna is a Christmas classic at our house. I personally love mine meaty and spicy with that delightful hint of oregano. Sprinkling Farmergirl Fresh spices farmdust and minnies blend brings this recipe to life.
Ingredients
- 9 Lasagna noodles
- 1-pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
- 1-pound ground beef
- 1 green pepper
- 1 red pepper
- 1 medium onion
- 2 cups fresh spinach
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jar (24 oz) marina sauce
- 1 container (15 oz) ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon Minnies Blend(www.farmergifresh.com)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Farmdust(www.farmergirlfresh.com)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees, cook lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- **Cook Sausage and Vegetables** In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage and beef cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Remove meat from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add onions, green peppers and red peppers. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and spinach, cooking until the spinach is wilted. Return the meat to the skillet, mix well, season with Minnies blend and Farmdust. (www.farmergirlfresh.com)
- **Prepare Cheese Mixture** In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the parmesan cheese, parsley, Minnies Blend and Farmdust (1 teaspoon). Mix until well blended.
- **Assemble the Lasagna** Spread the mixture on the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Place three lasagna noodles over the mixture. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then half of the sausage and vegetables. Sprinkle with a third of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, meat mixture, and mozzarella. Top with the remaining three noodles, the rest of the meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese. **Bake**
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes. Remove all foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- **Cool and Serve** Allow the lasagna to cool for about 10-15 minutes before slicing. This will help the layers set and make serving easier.
